1952年由国家名誉主席宋庆龄先生亲自创办，现为上海交通大学医学院附属医院、国家级爱婴医院、三级甲等妇产科专科和妇幼保健医院。遵循“实验性、示范性、加强科学研究”的办院方针，始终坚持全心全意为妇女儿童健康服务。位列中国医学科学院“中国医院科技影响力评价排行榜”妇产科学第八名，学术影响力名列全国第三名。
年门诊量超过129万人次，年住院病人超过4万人次，年手术量超过3万人次，年分娩量超过1万7千余人次。孕产妇和围产儿死亡率一直维持在国际低水平。
现有国家中科院院士、英国皇家妇产科学院荣誉院士、发展中国家科学院院士、“国家重大研究计划”首席科学家、国家“杰青”、上海市“领军人才”等高层次人才，邀请多名海外知名院士、教授和学者担任医院特聘专家。
近年来主持国际重大合作项目（牵头单位）、国家重点研发计划重点专项（首席单位）、国家重点专项（课题组长单位）等60余项国家级科研项目。科研成果曾获国家科技进步二等奖、中华医学科技一等奖、国家科技攻关重大成果奖、国家重点科技攻关计划优秀成果奖、国家科技攻关成果二等奖、全国妇幼健康科学技术一等奖等。
荣膺全国“五一”劳动奖状和文教卫生先进集体，上海市“五一”劳动奖状、劳模集体和上海市“文明单位”等称号。
The International Peace Maternity & Child Health Hospital (IPMCH) of China Welfare Institute, which was founded by Mme. Soong Ching-ling, the former Honorary Chairman of the Central Committee in 1952. As an AAA grade hospital for gynaecology and obstetrics, maternal and children health care, IPMCH insists on the purpose of “being experimental and demonstrative”, and the integration of medicine, education and research. It has been honored as one of the affiliated hospitals of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, the national class “baby-friendly hospital”. IPMCH ranked Top 8 Ob&Gyn hospital separately in “China Hospital Ranking for Science and Technology Influence” according to CAMS, and its’ academic influence ranked Top3.
Annually, over 1,290,000 outpatients and over 40,000 inpatients get the personalized medical service in our hospital, including over 30,000 operations and over 17,000 deliveries. The quality of medical care has approached advanced international standards.
IPMCH has excellent research team including Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Chief Scientists, National Outstanding Young Scientists, Shanghai Leading Talents and a number of well known academicians, professors and scholars both at home and abroad.
Currently, above 60 national scientific research projects are in process in the near five years. IPMCH presides over major international cooperation projects (the leading unit), key projects of the state key research and development plan(the chief unit) and key national projects (project leader unit). The key awards of achievements in scientific research include the second prize of the “National Scientific & Technological Advancement Award”, the first prize of the “Chinese Medical Science Award”, the first prize of “National Maternal and Infant Health” and etc..
IPMCH is also authorized the honors of the “National ‘May 1st’ Labor Day” Medals, “National Advanced Group Award” , “Shanghai ‘May 1st’ Labor Day” Medals, Shanghai Model Worker's Collectives, Shanghai Civilized Unit and so on .
