上海交通大学附属第六人民医院内分泌代谢科，是上海市糖尿病临床医学中心、上海市重中之重代谢病临床医学中心、上海市糖尿病研究所、上海市糖尿病重点实验室所在地，是集临床、科研、教学为一体的综合性机构，是国家卫计委重点学科、国家教委重点专科、上海市教委重点学科、上海市医院领先专业重点学科。学科在中国工程院院士项坤三教授及973首席科学家贾伟平教授的带领下，在国内较早开展糖尿病基础和临床研究，是我国糖尿病分子病因学的发源地之一，亦是我国糖尿病及其相关疾病研究领域成果最多、内容最丰富的单位之一，是公认的国内著名、国际知名的糖尿病诊治、研究中心。学科现有人员85人，包括院士1名，博士生导师17名。学科每年接诊来自全国各地的患者超过20万人次。
学科聚焦以糖尿病、肥胖为代表的代谢性 疾病，针对中国人群糖尿病及肥胖的特点，在遗传机制、流行病学、诊断与治疗、监测、管理模式及分子病因学都开展了系统性的研究工作，并取得一系列卓有成效的成果。学科已形成糖尿病及其并发症、肥胖病、代谢综合征、高尿酸血症和甲状腺疾病、低血糖症、骨质疏松、疑难内分泌病等诊治特色，并建立了多学科团队医学诊治模式。期间涌现出一批优秀的临床及研究人才，包括工程院院士、973项目首席科学家、卫生部突出贡献中青年专家、国务院特殊津贴专家、中组部青年拔尖人才、国家自然科学基金优青、上海市领军人才、上海市优秀学科带头人、上海市“科技启明星”、上海市“浦江人才”、“医苑新星”、优秀青年医学人才、晨星青年学者、上海交大医学院“高峰学科-研究型医师”双百人计划等人才。2018年度学科在中国医院科技量值（STEM）内分泌与代谢病学排名第三名。
The Department of Endocrinology & Metabolism of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Sixth People's Hospital, including Shanghai Clinical Center for Diabetes, Shanghai Clinical Center for Metabolic Diseases, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Diabetes Mellitus and Shanghai Diabetes Institute, is a comprehensive institution integrating clinical practice, scientific research and education. It is also a key discipline of National Health Commission, Ministry of Education, Shanghai Municipal Education Committee and a leading discipline in Hospitals of Shanghai. Led by Professor Kunsan Xiang, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Weiping Jia, a chief scientist of National 973 program, the clinical center is one of the earliest institutes which carried out basic and clinical researches of diabetes in China and one of the birthplaces of the molecular etiology study of diabetes in China. Recognized as a domestic and world-renown center for diabetes treatment and research, it is one of the units with the most abundant achievements in the field of diabetes and related diseases in China. Nowadays, 85 staffs work in the clinical center, including one academician and 17 PhD mentors. Each year, the center receives more than 200,000 patient visits from all over the country.
Focusing on metabolic diseases represented by diabetes and obesity in Chinese people, the center have carried out a series of researches on the genetics, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, surveillance, management model and molecular etiology of these diseases and gained fruitful achievements. It is also featured in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and its complications, obesity, metabolic syndrome, hyperuricemia, thyroid diseases, hypoglycemia, osteoporosis, and other complicated endocrine diseases. Moreover, multidisciplinary team model for disease care was established. In recent years, a group of excellent clinical and research talents emerged, including academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chief Scientist of National 973 program, Outstanding Mid-Aged Expert by National Health Commission , Experts with State Department special allowance, Top Young Talent by Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, National Science Fund Excellent Young Scholars, Outstanding Leading Talents in Shanghai, Excellent Academic Leader in Shanghai , Shanghai Rising Star Scholar, Shanghai Morning Star Scholar, Shanghai Pujiang Scholar, Yiyuan New Star Scholar, Outstanding Young Medical Talents Scholarship, Scholarship of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine "Peak Disciplines - Research Physician" Double Hundred Plan and so on. The center ranks 3rd in endocrinology and metabolism field in China by Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) in 2018.
