上海市高血压研究所于1958年成立，是一所集流行病学、临床、发病机理研究和社区防治为一体的市属专业机构。邝安堃、龚兰生、赵光胜、朱鼎良先后担任所长，他们的学术思想和研究成果为研究所的发展奠定了坚实基础。研究所现任所长为王继光。

研究所现设细胞与分子生物学研究室、流行病学研究室、血管检测中心、社区高血压防治中心，以及临床测试实验室、自发性大鼠实验动物房等分支机构。瑞金医院高血压科与研究所所科合一，是上海交通大学医学院心血管内科专业博士和硕士研究生招生单位。

The Shanghai Institute of Hypertension was established in the year of 1958 by the municipal government of Shanghai, and is devoted to epidemiological, clinical, pathophysiological, and community studies on hypertension. Under the leadership of the former directors of the Institute, professor Ankun Kuang, professor Lansheng Gong, professor Guangsheng Zhao and professor Dingliang Zhu, and the current director, professor Jiguang Wang, the institute has become a major institution for hypertension research in China.

The institute is currently composed of Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology, Centre for Epidemiological Studies and Clinical Trials, Centre for Cardiovascular Evaluations, Centre for Community Control of Hypertension, China Centre for Health Promotion and Education on Hypertension (Shanghai), Clinical Laboratory, and Laboratory of Experimental Animals. The Department of Hypertension in Ruijin Hospital is the clinical wing of the Institute. The Institute also provides educational opportunities for graduate students of doctors and masters in cardiovascular medicine.
