免疫学与微生物学系成立于2013年，由上海市免疫学研究所、原免疫学教研室和原病原生物学教研室合并建立，国家/上海市海外高层次人才计划专家、上海交通大学“王宽诚”讲席教授苏冰教授任系主任及学科带头人。
免疫学与微生物学系现有教职工94人，博导25人，硕导8人，在读研究生123人，博士后37人。根据学科发展定位，已吸引一批国内外优秀研究人才，组建了一支具有创新活力且兼具国际视野、结构合理的人才梯队。目前，系内共有课题组长24人（其中：国家自然科学基金杰出青年科学基金获得者2人，国家自然科学基金优秀青年科学基金获得者4人），研究方向覆盖肿瘤免疫、感染免疫、移植免疫、区域免疫、自身免疫、耐药细菌控制、病原基因组学、分子微生态学及微生物与宿主相互作用等。系内2个教学课程组（免疫学科课程组和病原学科课程组）承担了大量医学院本科与研究生的免疫学、微生物学理论和实验课教学任务。同时，与国际知名科研院所建立广泛交流合作，拥有顶尖的海外专家团队，协助培养具有国际化视野和学科前沿思维的青年科学家。
近年来，免疫学与微生物学系承担多项国家科技部973课题、863课题、国家自然科学基金重点项目等：2014-2019年新立项科研项目157项，其中国家级项目85项；发表SCI论文208篇，尤其近年多项研究成果发表在相关领域知名期刊杂志，如Cell ，Cell Metabolism，Cell Research，Nature Medicine，Nature Neuroscience，Nature Communications等。
The Department of Immunology and Microbiology was established in 2013 by merging Shanghai Institute of Immunology, the former Department of Immunology and the former Department of Pathogen Biology. The current Chair of the Department is Professor Bing Su, KC Wong Chair Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The Department of Immunology and Microbiology has 94 full-time staff, including 25 Ph.D. supervisors and 8 MSc. supervisors. Research in the department is led by 24 principal investigators (PIs), each managing their own independent research groups. Currently, there are 123 graduate students and 37 postdoctoral fellows in the department. The research program in the department covers a broad spectrum of immunology and microbiology fields, and addresses key questions of contemporary immunology and microbiology using molecular, cellular, and animal models.
In the recent years, the department has undertaken a number of scientific research projects, including “973” and “863” projects and projects that are supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In the past 6 years, a total of 157 new projects were approved, among which 85 are national-level projects. Research in the department were published in 208 SCI papers including well-known international academic journals, such as Cell, Cell Metabolism, Cell Research, Nature Medicine, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Communications,etc.
