University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine
Since its inception in 1945, the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of
Medicine has become a national leader in medical education and
research, and is Canada’s only bilingual medical school. Together
with our affiliated institutions, faculties and hospitals, the
Faculty has achieved a number of high rankings, including second in
Canada for research intensity in medicine and science for three
years in a row.
The highly accredited MD Program attracts 3,800 applicants vying
for 165 places. Students have the opportunity to pursue their
medical degree in one of three unique streams: Anglophone,
Francophone or Aboriginal. The Faculty’s MD students consistently
rank among the top in the country in the Canadian Resident Matching
Service (CaRMS) competitive process, with 98 per cent of graduates
receiving their first choice of postgraduate specialty discipline
in the national match.
The Faculty offers 67 postgraduate medical education residency
training programs and ranks among the top three in Canada for its
range of subspecialties. The next generation of leaders in research
are ensured through the Faculty’s Graduate Studies and research
programs, with five graduate programs and three collaborative
programs available at the MSc and PhD levels and one combined
program (MD/PhD), where exceptional students may pursue two degrees
over the span of seven years.

The Ottawa Hospital
The Ottawa Hospital is a non-profit, public university teaching
hospital in Ottawa, Canada. The hospital is made up of the former
Grace Hospital, Riverside Hospital, Ottawa General Hospital and
Ottawa Civic Hospital. It is a 3800 - bedded academic health
sciences centre affiliated with the University of Ottawa, and the
University of Ottawa Heart Institute is located at the hospital's
Civic Campus. The Ottawa Hospital is also one of two trauma centres
in Eastern Ontario and southern Quebec. The other is Children's
Hospital of Eastern Ontario accommodating juvenile and adolescent
patients.
The Ottawa Hospital is a compassionate provider of patient-centred
care with an emphasis on tertiary-level and specialty care,
primarily for residents of Eastern Ontario. It educates future
health-care professionals in partnership with theUniversity of
Ottawa and other affiliated universities, community colleges and
trainingorganizations.

technology in thedelivery of patient care through world-leading
