SJTU School of Medicine–ION, Chinese Academy of Sciences “Brain Diseases Clinical Research Center”Academic Seminar was held successfully

On May 25, Shanghai Jiao Tong University(SJTU) School of Medicine- Institute of Neuroscience(ION), Chinese Academy of Sciences “Brain Disease Clinical Research Center” Academic Seminar was held in our school, and more than 70 related clinicians and scientists from SJTUSchool of Medicine and Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the seminar, including Pu Muming, director of the ION, Chen Hongzhuan, deputy director of SJTU School of Medicine, Wang Yan and her assistant XiongZhiqi, the party secretary director of the ION, and Ding Jianqing, the chief of Technology Department of SJTU School of Medicine.

At the seminar, since “Brain Disease Clinical Research Center” was established two years ago, Chen Hongzhuansaid, based on the requirement of the national major strategiy, a series of exploration and practice have been positively carried out in the collaborative research mode, the operation and management mechanism, the personnel performance evaluation system and so on. After the center is involved in “university and Chinese academy of sciences cooperation special construction platform” of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, we have made substantial progress and results. It is hoped that this seminar will explore the future work priorities, continue to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, and strengthen basic clinical transformation research to make new breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment and research of brain diseases.

Academician Pu Muming introduced the general situation of Chinese brain science research and the purpose and theme of this seminar. According to him, brain science is not only one of the most active frontiers in life science, but also one of the most challenging scientific problems, the urgency and importance of whom has arisen much worldwide attention in the past few years. Therefore, many countries and organizations have launched brain science research projects, and “Brain Science and Brain-Like Intelligence Technology” is launched by China as the major project reflecting the national strategic intent, which has been listed as one of the four pilots in the national “2030 major science and technology innovation project”. He hopes that through this seminar, on the basis of the early stage of the cooperation, joint research teams with clear goals and clear steps could be further established in the way of the top floor layout and the top-down approach, and related research could be carried out to dock withthe future “Chinese brain plan”.

The Seminar has mainly discussed three study aspects including early brain functional diagnostic methods, early intervention to brain dysfunction andbrain function rehabilitation, and more than 30 speakers from Neuro-psychiatric clinic of SJTU School of Medicine, and the ION, Chinese Academy of Sciences were addressed, followed by heated discussion, which was helpful to further mining cooperation potential to provides a good communication platform for the scientific research cooperation.
