2017 International Immunology Forum successfully held in Marseille, France

From November 16 to November 18, a delegation of 16 from School of Medicine and Institute of Immunology, headed by Dr. Chen Hongzhuan, vice dean of School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Su Bing, the director of Shanghai Institute of Immunology, went to Marseilles University in France and CIML for the three-day bilateral forum and visit ,which was held successfully. On the evening of November 15 (local time in Marseille, France), Jean Roda, Vice Mayor of Foreign Affairs of Marseilles Municipal Government, and Patrick Padovani, Vice Mayor of Health Affairs, welcomed the delegation at the Marseille city government. Zhu Lying, Consul General of the Chinese General Consulate in Marseille attended the event.

On behalf of the Marseille city government, Deputy Mayor Patrick Padovani warmly welcomed the delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and was very pleased to take the 2017 International Immunology Forum as an opportunity to further expand the communication on life science and immunization between Shanghai with Marseilles, which was hoped that the cooperation between Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Aix-Marseille would be promoted on the basis of the strong cooperation between the Research Center of Rumini Immunization in Marseille and the Shanghai Institute of Immunology. Later, on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Vice President Chen Hongzhuan thanked the Marshall city government, Chinese GeneralConsul Zhu Liying in Marseille and the warm reception of the representatives of Marseilles University. He stressed that the exchange was one of the important activities of the 30th anniversary of sister citiesbetween Shanghai and Marseille,which was also a new beginning of the two cities based on the original cooperation in the field of life science. They hoped that the exchanges and cooperation with the Marseille Immunology Research Center would serve as a link to promote the all-round cooperation in education and scientific research.

The 17th International Forum on Immunology, co-sponsored by the RhesumMinimient Center in Marseille and the Shanghai Institute of Immunology, was held on the November 16thto 17that the Limerick Immunization Center in Marseille. Zhu Liying,Consul General of Chinese Consul General in Marseille, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He said Shanghai and Marseille are important hub cities facing the world.The year of 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the completion of the two cities, when both parties jointly planned and organized a series of celebrations including a delegation from Shanghai JiaoTong University School of Medicine visiting Marseille and attending the immunology forum. The cooperation of the top international immunization instituteswould benefit the future of mankind, whose meaning had far exceeded the relationship between the two cities and risen to the level of building mutual relations between the two countries. Nearly 50 researchers from related fields attended the forum includingProfessor Eric Viver, Director of Marseille Immunology Institute, Professor Chen Hongzhuan, vice dean of School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Su Bing, director of Shanghai Institute of Immunology, Professor Cheng Jinke, Dean of School of Basic Medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University and guest professors of Immunology such as Dr. FlorentGinhoux from Shanghai Institute of Foreign Experts Affairs. A total of 16 speakers from China and France reported on the progress made in the field of innate immunity and acquired immunity to the participants of the conference, including the dendritic cell differentiation and function, the molecular mechanism of T cell signaling and its regulation, the morphological development of immune organs and its function-specific, high-affinity antibody production and functional regulation mechanism, diagnosis, treatment strategies and vaccine formajor infection and tumor immune-related diseases and many other hot areas. It is worth mentioning that Dr. FrentGinhoux, a visiting professor at Shanghai Institute of Immunology, Shanghai Institute of Immunology,focusing on the development of monocytes - macrophages and dendritic cells, reported important progress made in this field using mouse monocyte tracking model. During the conference, the organizer CIML invited the delegation to LuminyBiopark Industrial Park to visit the Marseille ImmunopolemAb (MImAb) antibody platform facility and Innate Pharma, a well-known European biotechnology company.

The visit and exchange activities of the delegation have also received great attention from Aix-Marseille. On the evening of local time on the evening of November17th,Marie MASCLET DE BARBARIN,Vice President of Marseilles University,ProfessorPierre CHIAPPETTA Vice President of University attended a welcome ceremony held at the University of Marseille andcordial exchanged with the delegation members.Both parties hoped that this exchange could be an opportunity to further promote the substantial cooperation between Aix-Marsei University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.

Founded in 1976, CIML, co-founded by CNRS, INSERM and Aix-Marseille in France, is a prestigious international research institution, well-known in the field of immunology in Europe. Professor Eric Viver, the current director of CIML, and Professor Philippe Pierre, the next director, have visited the Shanghai Institute of Immunology for academic exchanges. Professor Eric Viver, also a member of Shanghai Insititute of Immunology as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute, has participated as an evaluation expert in the international assessment of the International Institute of Immunology in 2016. In October 2016, Professor Bernard Malissen, an internationally renowned immunologist from CIML, was invited to participate in the Immunological Diseases and their Transformation Research Forum sponsored by Shanghai Institute of Immunology. Director Su Bing participated as a guest of honor in the 40th anniversary of CIML‘s founding ceremony held in 2016. Based on the history of development of both institutes, their academic background and the existing exchange foundation, the institutes of both parties have reached the will to further develop substantive cooperation. Aix-Marseille is a comprehensive public university based in Aix-en-Marseille, France, which is the largest university in France and the largest French school, comprising 130 research institutes with 74,000 students, including 10,000 international students, 8000 various types of faculty researchers, as well as 12 PhD institutes and 4,500 PhDs. Marseille Immunopole is a Marseille bio-research and development center supported by the French government and renowned pharmaceutical company Sanofi, whose member companies include the Marseille ImmunopolemAb Antibody Platform and Innate Pharma, a leading biotech medicine company, focusing on tumor targets, inflammatory diseases antibodies and the corresponding preclinical and early clinical studies.

The International Exchange Office of Medical School, the Department of Chinese and French Medicine, the Department of Science and Technology and the School of Basic Medicine have given strong support to the successful holding of this forum and activities.
