Shanghai Key Laboratoryof Combination of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine inPrevention and Therapy of Osteoarthropathy

The laboratory of Shanghai Institute of Traumatology andOrthopaedics was established at beginning of the 1960s, and it wasamong the few specialized orthopaedics lab in China. Through nearly30 years construction, in 1997 it was elected to Shanghai Keylaboratory of prevention and cure of bone and joint disease bycombined Chinese and western medicine. Now it is consisted of theseresearch labs.In the past ten years, surrounding the subject ofbone and arthropathy, it took change of completion of and isimplementing more them 60 research projects. It won third classaward of Shanghai scientific technical progress award(1), Shanghaimedicine science and technology award(one 1st prize and one 2ndprize), China medicine science and technology award(one 2nd awardand one 3rd award ), national patent(2). It published 150 papers:“Repair and reestablish the bone and joint”, “fibroblast boneformation phenotypic expression discover and oriented regulationand control”, “Osteoarthritis and osteoporosis pathogenicbiological mechanism and the countermeasure”, “bone celldissimilation and inducement regulation and control”, “bonegeneration and upgrowth and important bone disease control”, “boneand joint tissues engineering”. Among them, 11 papers woncountry-level excellent paper award. In the field of bone and jointdisease prevention and cure, it forms a long term, stable,systematic and continual innovative research-direction. It builds afull-time study team consisting of mainly young and middle ageexperts. Their research and their advocated innovative viewpointspromoted and led the development of the discipline. Now, itundertook national key discipline (orthopaedics) and national “211”project main discipline (orthopaedics) construction, and the taskof culturing talents. And it establishes close subject-cooperativerelationship and the regular academic exchange and staff reciprocalvisit mechanism with Hongkong University orthopaedics department,Alabama University USA bone research center, Harvard UniversityForthy Institute and domestic related research units. Every yearthe laboratory cultures over ten postgraduates with master and phDdegree. It accepts further education of over ten postgraduates andresearch fellows from home and abroad. There are almost ten jointstudy subjects, and every year it accepts specimen detection ofover 2000pcs for China and abroad and it treats over 3000 clinicalpatients by physical on chemical-biological method. Now it becomesa main research base of related specialization in Shanghai andChina, and an international well-known researchunit.
