State Key Laboratory of Oncogenes and Related Genes

State Key Laboratory of Oncogenes & Related Genes(SKLORG), affiliated to Shanghai Cancer Institute and ShanghaiJiaotong University, was founded in 1985 and approved to functionin 1987.

The laboratory currently has 52 faculty and staffs, including 35scientists (18 senior researchers). Meanwhile, the laboratoryoccupies 5300 square meters and is well equipped with 13 pieces ofinstruments valued more than 200 thousand RMB. At present, theState Key Laboratory consists of seven research sections:Functional Genomics; Tumor Invasion and Metastasis; Epigenetics; Molecular Pathology; Gene Therapy; SignalTransduction; Systems Biology.Based on the principles of systemsbiology and approaches of genomics, proteomics, metabonomics andmolecular cell biology, the research projects in SKLORG are mainlyfocused on: (1) identifying novel genes related to hepatocellularcarcinoma; (2) elucidating the mechanisms of hepatocarcinogenesisand liver cancer metastasis; (3) developing the novel methods forearly diagnosis and prevention. In the recent years, SKLORG won 30research grants, got 61 China Patents as well as 15 academicawards. In the mean time, the laboratory has published more than360 scientific papers, and trained 42 postgraduates for Ph. and 65 for master’s degree.

Professor Wang set up the International Co-operationLaboratory on Signal Transduction in Shanghai Eastern HepatobiliarySurgery Institute/Hospital and established a clinical treatmentdistrict after she came back from Germany in 1997, forming aninnovative research unit that combines basic and clinical research.Professor Wang has published more than 90 papers on high-impactedjournals such as J.E.M., Gastroenterology , Hepatology, CancerRes., Nature、 Oncogene and, J.B.C.,with a total impact factor of230.

She is the winner of“Science and Technology Elite of Shanghai” and “Golden Star ofScience and Technology” awarded by General LogisticsDepartment.
