The library has a collection of 465,000 volumes of books and 1,443 different periodicals. Among the periodicals there are 54 in French language more than any other library in China. The total building space of the library is 8,304m², while 2,500m² for reading-room with 592 seats. SSMU library has a large collection of Chinese medical journals plus 301 original French language journals and 17 pediatric journals. It has one of the largest collections of medical books in China. It has 380 medical videocassettes and 1542 audiotapes. SSMU library is one of 19 members of Shanghai net resources. It is also a member of the National University Library Committee and Shanghai Professional Periodicals Committee. In recent years, the library has continuously expanded its retrieval system enabling teachers more rapid access to data.
