XinHua Hospital, the first large general hospital after the establishment of new China, was founded in Oct., 1958. It covers 120,800 square meters with the building space being 90,338 square meters. It has 1318 patient-beds, 47 clinical sections, 13 medical-technical section, 66 specialties and 15 research sections. In 2001, the hospital treated 2,046,800 outpatients, 31,446 inpatients and 12,771 operations were performed. Its staff totals 2,700 including 246 senior experts, and it also has 2 municipal research institutes, 1 national key specialty, 1 key specialty of municipality, 1 key specialty supported by Shanghai Education Committee and 1 key specialty leading in medical specialties in Shanghai.
Xinhua College of Clinical Medicine and XinHua College of Pediatric Clinical Medicine take responsibility for students of clinical medicine and pediatrics.
