Renji Hospital was established in 1844. it is the earliest hospital in Shanghai and it has a new extension in Pudong New District (East Renji Hospital). The campus space is 56,067 square meters and the building space is 91,202 square meters. It has 1,000 patient-beds, 35 clinical, medical, technical sections. The hospital employs 2,300 people, among them 221 senior doctors. It has treated about 1,408,000 emergency cases and outpatients, about 23,000 inpatients and 11,566 operations in 2001.
