
Shanghai Second Medical University
(SSMU) is one of the key universities that enroll overseas
students in China. It admits not only scholarship students
recommended by the China Scholarship Council, but also non-scholarship
for undergraduates, postgraduates, Ph.D., advanced studies,
and Chinese language studies.
School Brief
With a long history, SSMU was founded in 1952 especially during
the nation-wide reorganization of institute of higher education.
Incorporated into this university were the School of Medicine
of St. John's University (1896-1952), the Medical College
of Aurora University (1911-1952) and the Tong-De Medical College
(1918-1952). It is situated in the center of city, (on Chongqing
Nan Road) near the famous commercial street Huai Hai Road.
It occupies near 100 mu. With 50 years of rapid development,
SSMU has become a state-of-the-art medical university consisting
of almost all disciplines, a strong faculty, remarkable academic
achievements, and comprehensively developed clinical teaching
and research facilities.
The whole SSMU system includes 14 colleges such as Basic
Medical College and Clinical Medical College, 5 affiliated
general hospitals, 1 specialty hospital and 13 teaching hospitals
and teaching specialties. There are 2 seven-year programs
(master degrees), 8 undergraduate programs, 8 three-year college
level programs. There are 47 postgraduate specialties, 31
doctoral specialties and 4 post-doctoral research positions.
There are 282 supervisors for doctoral students, 750 supervisors
for postgraduate students. Since its establishment, SSMU has
produced 27,000 graduates. The university has formed a complete
educational system for postgraduate studies, undergraduate
programs, adults and continuing education and foreign student
education.
SSMU began to admit foreign students in 1967 and established
inter-collegiate relations with 28 schools from 9 countries
in the world. It trained the students to become talented medical
personal and promoted the development of school in all aspects.
At present, about 152 international students from 24 countries
are studying at SSMU. The International Students Office (Foreign
Students Office) is under the leadership of the university
authorities responsible for admission and administration for
international students.

1. Prerequisite for Admission
Degree Programs:
(1) Bachelor's Degree:
a. Academic record equivalent to Chinese High-school
b. Under 25 years old and be in good health
c. Applicant form
d. Marks of high school should meet the university's entrance
requirement
e. The certificates should be well examined
f. HSK (Chinese language level examination for foreigners)
grade C at the elementary level
(2) Master's Degree:
a. Academic record equivalent to Chinese undergraduate
b. Under 40 years old and be in good health
c. Two letters of recommendation from two professors or
associate professors
d. Be thoroughly examined your certificates
e. Pass all of your examinations
(3) Doctor¨s Degree
a. Academic record equivalent to Chinese master¨s degree
b. Under 45 years old and be in good health
c. Two letters of recommendation from two professors or
associate professors
d. Certificates will be examined before admission
e. Pass all of your examinations
Non-Degree
Programs:
(1) Advanced Training Program: Those who are under 45 years
old, in good health, graduated
from medical school, and providing the corresponding school
reports.
(2) Chinese Language Program: Those who are under 60 years
old and in good health.
2. Application Procedures
Anyone who wishes to study at SSMU, please contact the International
Students Office directly and ask for or download an Application
Form for Admissions and Physical Examination Record For Foreigner
in this homepage. After being fully completed, the Application
Form for Admissions along with your corresponding documents
*Photocopy of the passport,
* Photocopy of the high middle school graduation certificate
and study transcripts are to be submitted to the International
Students Office of SSMU by Air Mail in the time for application.
International Students Office of SSMU will review the above
documents. The qualified applicants should
*Provide a photocopy of a Physical Examination Record for
Foreigners and Blood Test Report
*Provide a certificate of financial support
*Provide a photocopy of certificate of HSK
*Send registration fee US$ 50 to SSMU
International Students Office of SSMU will send to the successful
candidates the Admission Notice and Visa Application for Study
in China (Table JW202). The successful candidates can apply
for a student visa (X Visa) in the Chinese embassy and should
report to the schools at the time specified in the Admission
Notice and register at the University before the semester
begin.
3.Time for application
Applicants for degree studies or advanced studies should apply
from Feb to May annually
4. Time for Registration
