SPECIALTIES
THE
SPECIALTY OF CLINICAL MEDICINE
The specialty of Clinical Medicine which includes a 5-year
program, a 7-year program and a 7-year French curriculum,
is the central pursuit of Shanghai Second Medical University.
The number of students in this specialty accounts for about
60% of the total number of students. The goal of this program
is to train students who, upon graduation, will be competent
in clinical practice in various medical disciplines as well
as preventive medicine, medical teaching and research. Students
who have completed the 7-year program will be granted a master’s
degree. Students who have completed the 5-year program will
be granted bachelor’s degree. The 7-year French program is
a distinctive feature of the university. It is also an important
cooperation program in the communication between China and
France.
THE
SPECIALTY OF STOMATOLOGY
Stomatology is one of SSMU’s renowned specialties, developed
from the Dentistry Department of the former Aurora University.
It offers 7-year program with a bachelor or master degree.
Graduates will be engaged in clinical practice, teaching and
scientific research of oral medicine.
THE
SPECIALTY OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE
This specialty offers a 5-year program. The goal of this department
is to train students in fundamental theories and practical
skills of basic medicine, clinical medicine, laboratory science
and includes basic knowledge and skills in experimental medicine.
Graduates are engaged in medical laboratory sciences of various
clinical departments, teaching and scientific research.
THE
SPECIALTY OF NURSING
Nursing offers a 4-year program. Its aim is to train students
to master basic theories in nursing and clinical medicine,
fundamental skills in nursing, principles of common disease,
frequently occurring disease and acute, difficult and severe
disease. Following graduations nurses are engaged in nursing
education, nursing management and clinical nursing.
THE
SPECIALTY OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
The goal of this 4-year program is to train senior biomedical
engineering personnel in biomedical basic theories and skills
of electric engineering and computer use. Graduates work on
development of application, technical resource, maintenance
management of medical equipment, computers and the Internet.
THE
SPECIALTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH MANAGEMENT
Public health management is a 4-year program. The goal is
to train senior professional personnel in knowledge and application
theory, techniques and methods of modern management. It may
include management in public health, environmental protection
and medical insurance.
BASIC DIPLOMA TRAINING
THE
SPECIALTY OF NURSING
The goal of this 3-year program is to provide training in
complicated nursing skills to students who are receiving training
in basic nursing concepts and professional nursing practice.
THE
SPECIALTY OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE
This specialty is a 3-year program. Its aim is to train students
in basic medical laboratory science to work in clinical and
medical research institutes and medical biology enterprises.
THE
SPECIALTY OF STOMATOLOGY TECHNOLOGY
The specialty is a 3-year program. The goal is to train students
in competency at various levels of oral cavity medical treatment
and oral cavity repair technique using construction of prosthetic
devices in dental manufacturers.
THE
SPECIALTY OF EYESIGHT TECHNIQUE
This specialty is a 3-year program. The goals is to student’s
understanding of eye function and develop professional skill
in eye protection and improvement of vision.
THE
SPECIALTY OF MEDICAL INSURANCE
The specialty offers a 3-year program. The goal is to train
students in advanced medical insurance work.
THE
SPECIALTY OF COMPUTER APPLICATION
The specialty offers 3-year program. The goal is to train
students to master basic computer theory, an understanding
of databases, multimedia and networking application.
THE AFFILIATED SECONDARY MEDICAL SCHOOL
The Affiliated Secondary Medical School was founded in 1989.
It has a total of 1,630 students and offers the specialties
of nursing, medical Laboratory Sciences, Basic Medicine, Stomatology,
and other specialties with three-and four-year programs. The
school has already trained over 1000 intermediate medical
personnel. The campus has an area of 70 Mu and a building
providing an area of 50,000 square meters. It has a staff
of 309 including 33 senior professors. The students train
in various general hospitals throughout Shanghai. The school
has been cited as an advanced institution for vocational and
technical education by the Shanghai Municipal Government on
several occasions.
