Shanghai-Sydney Joint Research Center - Joint Laboratoryof Biotechnology and Regenerative Medicine has been set up

  On the afternoon of November 13,under the framework of research cooperation between Shanghai JiaoTong University and the University of Sydney, the “Shanghai-Sydney Joint Research Center-Joint Laboratory of Bioengineering and Regenerative Medicine” was unveiled and the “Bioengineering and Regeneration Medical International Symposium ” was successfully held in CampusXujiahui of Shanghai JiaoTong University(SJTU). The conference was presided over by the academician Feng Dagan of the University of Sydney who also delivered an opening speech. Professor Hala Zreiqat from the University of Sydney and Professor Jiang Xinquan from Ninth People‘s Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine unveiled the lab. Attended the meeting were the leadership including Professor Michael Fulham from University of Sydney, Gao Weiqiangand Gu Hongchen, dean and vice dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Biomedical Engineering, Zhang Xianming andSun Jielin, director and vice director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Translational Medicine Office, and Cui Daxiang, vice president of Institute of Translational Medicine. The establishment of “Shanghai-Sydney Joint Research Center-Laboratoryof Bioengineering and Regenerative Medicine” marked a milestone in the industry-university-research cooperation between Ninth People’s Hospital and the University of Sydney.

  Following the opening ceremony, the 2017international symposium on bioengineering and regenerative medicine was held. First, Professor Jiang Xinquan and Professor Hala Zreiqat introduced respectivelythe research team of bioengineering and regenerative medicine in Ninth People‘s Hospital and University of Sydney. The participating experts then reported on cutting-edge research in bioengineering and regenerative medicine. Professor Jinman Kim from University of Sydney introduced the latest research progress of the Australian Innovative Bioengineering Center. Professor Cui Daxiang gave a lecture on the forefront of the Shanghai Engineering Center for Intelligent Diagnosis and Therapy Instrument. Dr. Li Guanglong also carried out a more detailed exposition on the research progress of the cooperation between the Ninth People’s Hospital and the University of Sydney. Professor Li Haiyan, Professor Shen Feng and Professor Ye Jian from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University introduced their work in Biomaterials Organization Engineering, Molecular Diagnostic Platform and Slit-enhanced Raman Probe for Bioimaging. Finally, the participating experts conducted active discussions on specific issues such as joint laboratory operation, joint project application and cooperation forms, and suggested that the two parties should carry out the exchange of teachers and students and planned to hold a seminar at the University of Sydney in 2018 which would invite SJTU participants.

  After the conference, Professor Hala was invited to visit the Ninth People‘s Hospital and conducted a warm and enthusiastic discussion with teachers and students of Professor Jiang Xinquan’s team. The team led by Jiang Xinquan onDental Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Medicine and Professor Hala Zreiqat‘s team have established cooperationfor many years and co-published a hand of academic articles.NowProfessor Hala Zreiqat has served as guest visiting professor ofShanghai Jiao Tong University School of Stomatology, and Professor Jiang Xinquan also invitedas a honorary professorof the University of Sydney, Australia (School of Engineering and Information Technology). The joint Shanghai-Sydney research center- Laboratory of Bioengineering and Regenerative Medicine will use principles and methods of life science, materials science and other disciplines to study alternative medicine theories and technologies such as replacing, repairing, rebuilding or regenerating human tissues and organs, so as to promote the development of interdisciplinary research in bioengineering and regenerative medicine and to promote cross-cutting research and achievement transformation. It is believed that with the active efforts of both parties, the Joint Laboratory will participate in international competition and cooperation at a higher level, which will become an integrated scientific research platform with international influence so as to contribute to the health cause of mankind.
